An Appeal To Biblegateway Users For Discernment

books, discernment, false teaching, worldly philosophies, John Eldredge, Todd Burpo, Heaven is for real, Wild at Heart, Max Lucado, Christian literature, Look at what you're reading, Biblical understanding

I am an avid user of Biblegateway(dot)com. I am thankful for the Zondervan team who have developed and who maintain such a readily available world-wide Bible reference website. I also admire some devotionals Bible Gateway provides free of cost. Some of them have been challenging, convicting and have helped me get a clearer picture of what I know about our God and the Bible.

I recently received, in a subscription email from Bible Gateway, a discount on some popular Christian books. 71% off, whaa?! Eager and excited, I opened it to see an offer on a book by Max Lucado – an author I admire- along with the following titles.

books, discernment, false teaching, worldly philosophies, John Eldredge, Todd Burpo, Heaven is for real, Wild at Heart, Max Lucado, Christian literature, Look at what you're reading, Biblical understanding
Discernment gone wild.

This post is an appeal to anyone else who plans to buy these two titles because the offer came from Biblegateway.

Please do not buy them. They do not offer wholesome Biblical counsel.

I am open to correction on this matter. Continue reading “An Appeal To Biblegateway Users For Discernment”

Three Dangers Of Being The Life Of A Marg Party

happy, hang-out, life of the party, party, extrovert, no superificial please, time is precious

Hanging out has been a big blessing to me. Experiences others have shared with me during such times have been life-altering. I also got exposed to stories my friends would not have shared with me otherwise. (I would have learnt more about my friends, alas – I speak a lot more than I listen!)

Living as a community is a lovely thing. In many ways, God wants this to happen. After all, Jesus and his disciples and the first church were known for living community-oriented lives, all for honouring God and for benefitting others (Matt 22:37, Acts 2:42-47).
As Christians today, I hope we at Marg want to influence our friends and colleagues with the one thing that will change them forever – the incredible news of Jesus. Here is where Christians who are the life of the party come in. They often go to great lengths to invite friends over. They go out of their way, make new friends comfortable. From such “life of the party” folks, we stand much to gain from and to learn.

But of late, I have been mindful of the limitations I face when I try to be the life of the party. Continue reading “Three Dangers Of Being The Life Of A Marg Party”

Sanctified Time Pass – A Theology of Work

Welcome to Monday. Are you excited to worship God today at work?… Yes, you read that correctly. Worship God at the office. But I’m afraid that many days we despise going to work. We begin to think, “I’m doing the work for some secular boss, when I could be going out and doing real work for the Lord.” If these are your thoughts, then today’s post will do you a lot of good.

5 Heart-piercing, thought-provoking articles

How to find joy and meaning in your work
Let’s be honest. Many of us wish we loved our jobs more. Many of us want a higher calling in life rather than the 9-5 Mon-Fri job. This article will recalibrate our hearts to know that our higher calling is our 9-5 Mon-Fri job.

4 Reasons why God wills work
That’s right. Our jobs are not a “necessary evil” put here so that we can give more or to pass our time until we do more important stuff. Rather, it is in God’s perfect pleasure that we are to work and that is for our good!

Beauty of manual labor
This theology of work is not just for the guys in a cushy office chair, but it’s across all levels of work – even those who work under the hot sun as daily wage workers. Continue reading “Sanctified Time Pass – A Theology of Work”

Oh Yes. Sarees Can Rescue Indian Women

saree, goa, minister, galti, ladies, it's their fault, Jesus, the problem of the heart, India, bas karo bakwaas, Bible, Indian Christianity, speak the truth in love, Yeshu ji please rescue our country

I would have loved to say – it is the way women dress that has brought about molesnation, the rape of life across India.

After all, if only women could cover themselves properly, would these cases of battery, abuse, rape and molestation drastically reduce. The alleged statements made by a minister in Goa helps this case further. Whether he was misquoted or not, it better be true that wearing sarees prevents eve-teasing. The responsibility then lies on the ladies, not on men. Now they can take initiative. Ladko se galti ho jaati hai, lekin ladies first.

Now sarees will protect Indian women!

Ladies, please wear sarees. Men will stop pinching your buttocks. Continue reading “Oh Yes. Sarees Can Rescue Indian Women”
