Gopi Bahu And The Drama Of Justification

One thing I look forward to, while visiting my parents, is watching their favourite TV drama shows.

Just kidding.

For those who don’t know the world of Hindi television series, welcome to the episodic deluge of joint family-based melodrama. Months and years of gigantic plots within plots. Actors wear heavy make-up and even heavier expressions. Welcome to generations of Mothers-in-law vs. Daughters-in-law, crescendoing emotional background music and spacious living rooms that remind you of five-star hotel lobbies you dare not visit. Good characters have innocent looks; evil ones have evil smirks and usually sport large pendants that alien civilizations may have used for target-practice.

All actors also appear to have Wolverine’s healing powers, the only reason why the lady who seems all of 24 years, now has a 19-year old brat as her son.

But let me draw your attention to an interesting episode of ‘Saath Nibhana Saathiya’.

Purity #3 : Gospel-Truths Will Conquer Sexual Temptation

Bible, God's Word, Purity series, identity, gospel, rebellion, sin, Bible-reading plan, Armoury of the Saints, Spiritual warfare, God breaks Satan's strongholds, He sets the captives free, dead to sin, dark night of the soul, alive to God

Have you faced lack of interest in reading or studying the Bible after giving in to sexual temptation?
I have. Either I couldn’t “find time”, or my “quiet time” would become two minute-long “The Fast and the Frustrated” affairs.
Even when I could find time, it would be as dry as sandpaper: there used to be tons of guilt over my sexual uncleanness- God used to feel distant and there was no motivation to know more about my dear Saviour Jesus.

Has this been your exprience? Ever wondered why all this happens?

1. Feast on God’s Word

We are beings who live by finding our satisfaction in things or people. Our spirits need spiritual food.

Eat the right stuff.

The catch?

We were designed to find our soul’s joy only in the person of God our Father and our deepest sexual fulfillment in His designs (marriage or undefiled singleness).

Lust, sexually impure images or adultery, is spiritual poison for us. We will always choose between the feast of God and the feast of the Devil.

Which is why the Bible exhorts Christians to help ourselves to the great feast (Matt 4:4) offered within it! And to battle sexual impurity,

STEP #3: Starting now, remind yourself of the Good News by which you have been given new life, the very life of Christ. Continue reading “Purity #3 : Gospel-Truths Will Conquer Sexual Temptation”

Purity #2.1 – Answering Common Questions

brothers who cared, cut it off Jesus said, Escaping is wise, Flee sexual immorality, I don't have to be strong, Jesus is strong enough, obedience can be painful, obedience is eventually joyful, purity, Purity series, sexual purity, shield yourself, use your head

The sexual purity series is being written to help anyone who shares with me, that desire to no longer walk in sexual slavery but instead find satisfaction and freedom in Jesus Christ.

If you have read the Marg post on making AND executing radical plans to escape sexual temptation, then I can imagine that either you’re all excited about this idea, or – you can’t stand it.

Questions could arise :

“Are you suggesting that we can be completely free from temptation all the time?” (No!)
“Is creating a radical plan to escape sexual addiction, really possible for me?” (Yes,yes!)

Deeply troubled. Teary-eyed. I had yet again given in to gratifying my sexual desires. I finally shared my failure with a fellow Christian – I’ll call him Joe.

Joe listened patiently. I told him I could no longer keep sinning against God like this over and over again. Our conversation went somewhat like this:

Joe – “ Aravind bhai, I am and I will definitely be praying for you… Meanwhile may I know what exactly causes temptation for you?

Me – “Many things bhai.. there are websites, magazines.. even newspapers.. ”

Joe – “One thing we want to remember in our battle against the Devil is that we need to make a plan keep away from all things that tempts us.”

Me – “Ok..”

Joe – “For example- you mentioned newspapers. Did you mean, like this Times of India supplement over here?”

I was hesitant to admit it. No Christian had ever admitted to me that they were tempted by images in newspapers. Pornography was the the usual “big” problem, you know.

What would Joe think of me? “ Aravind is such a weak Christian that even images in newspapers tempt him?”.

But God knew I was weak. Why hide that from a brother who could help me?

Want true freedom? You must leave some things behind.

Me – “Yes Joe bhai, the supplement page is a problem”.

Joe – “Then you don’t have to read it. If you want, I can hold you accountable about this.” Continue reading “Purity #2 : Radically Escape Temptation”
