Three Pitiful States to Be Post-Christmas

Story, God, Jesus Christ, Christmas, Christmas tree, Santa Claus, Christmas ban, India, tradition, trivia, Christmas resources, TGC, Indian Christianity, Nativity, virgin birth

“Tis the season!”
scream Google and the malls in unison.

Christmas is around the corner. A lot of us are busy finishing year-end work projects, buying presents, bombarding colleagues with “Secret Santa” gifts, decorating and re-decorating Christmas trees, taking Christmas celebrations to old age homes and orphanages, watching blockbuster movies, attending midnight masses, or just taking to Facebook to say “Merry Christmas”.

Meanwhile, if you’ve been following the news, the world around us faces some level of Christmas-related drama. In Brunei, you could be punished for celebrating Christmas illegally. Is that just one Muslim ruler’s whim and fancy? Not really. Somalia has thought it best to ban public Christmas celebrations too. Countries like Tajikistan have happily banned Christmas trees, gift-giving and Father Frost (their Santa Claus – cool name huh!). This is sad, but I am mildly amused that these governments are expending energy and time banning paraphernalia.

If you’re thinking, “weird tyrants!”, try the US!

Certain states in the US will go miles to show you the inappropriateness of using the greeting “Merry Christmas”, which has been replaced with “Happy Holidays”  in order to not offend people of other faiths. A sparkling example of “tolerance”, I must say!

In about 10 days from now, a lot of us Christmas revelers will be left with a sense of deflation and all too familiar feelings of –

Oh-it-got-over-so-soon?

and

What-was-all-the-fuss-about?”.

Story, God, Jesus Christ, Christmas, Christmas tree, Santa Claus, Christmas ban, India, tradition, trivia, Christmas resources, TGC, Indian Christianity, Nativity, virgin birth

But right now, a lot of us are trying to celebrate all that we can, hoping the fanfare, the carols, the colours and the sounds will bring us a joy that will last long enough. But no; not even Christmas celebrations can satisfy the human heart. Continue reading “Three Pitiful States to Be Post-Christmas”

My sister and I were almost certain that Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry was real. We wished, even longed for Platform 9 and 3/4 to exist, for that solid wall to let us in to reveal a railway station that led to a world hidden to our muggle eyes and mysterious still.

As a teenager, I did not realize how engaging books in the Harry Potter series were. For the first time, I realized the depth and “realness” the author J K Rowling gave to Continue reading “How Every Movie Ever Made Is Connected to Christmas”

Ultimate Rescue-Stories : Sharon

disaster, rescue, salvation, redemption, Name-sake Christian, nominal Christian, spiritual, earthquake, flood, Sharon, Neglected Way Of The Cross, Sermons, faithful, God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, Christ the Justifier of the ungodly, The flesh and the Spirit

Everybody loves stories of people being rescued from imminent danger. Such stories receive a lot of coverage and views. And why not? It’s incredible good news that we hear in a world frequented by political battles, meanness and brokenness.

It’s even more powerful and awe-inspiring when we hear survivors themselves talk about their miraculous rescue.

The words of a child salvaged after being buried under earthquake rubble for 3 days.

The face of the man pulled from a flooding river that almost swept him to his doom.

disaster, rescue, salvation, redemption, Name-sake Christian, nominal Christian, spiritual, earthquake, flood, Sharon, Neglected Way Of The Cross, Sermons, faithful, God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, Christ the Justifier of the ungodly, The flesh and the Spirit

We too at Marg rejoice to hear such real-life stories. But we are even more thrilled to hear stories of people who have been rescued from ultimate soul-destruction.

2 Slaves.

no-slavery-vector

I am a slave and these chains are somehow,
Not the right ones.
All day long, I want to do what my mind tells me to,
I watch and read what I want to,
I go where I will, I come when I want to,
I eat and drink how I want to,
I think of and satisfy my self with all that I want, too.

I am a slave,

All day long, I long to do Your will, my God.

I used to have passion that burnt bright for Christ.
It was indeed from God’s Holy Spirit,
That passion used for overflow from mine heart to others.
Now where is it gone? Why is it so weak and like,
A tap that sometimes give water and sometimes,
lets its owner down.

Zeal for Your house has consumed me,
You can proceed to empty me to become a slave to Your desires, Father.
May I have no preferences, no rights, no choices except Yours.
I am willing to live and finally die just so that Your name becomes famous,
Through Your work in me.

I hear Your words.
You are the Son of God
I have been with You,
And known myself to be impure,
Filthy in so many deep gashes,
That I have lost count of– but You,
You can count them all.
Depart from me, for I am a very sinful man!
Appointed a son, I should have been glad to be Your slave ,
Mindful I should have been,
of my brothers and sisters,
of others who still don’t know Your gracious ways,
But I betray You – yet again.

My Father sent me to be an offering,
To obliterate the very sins that you refuse,
to let go.
I smell of pure and bloody sacrifice,
The day I gave up my life,
This pure life you could never live- you know it,
But it is exchanged for yours.
Come, take this gift of life & power.

Unclean am I, countless times of rebellion,
No one knows these shameful thoughts & deeds..

Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? declares the Lord.

Do I not fill heaven and earth? declares the Lord.

How can I approach You Lord?
All these ten thousand times..

I laid down my life only to take it up again- brand new.
I was delivered up for your trespasses and raised for your justification.
You are a beloved son. Come.

I no longer desire my ways,
I want Your heart, the heart of the Son,
The heart of the true Slave.
If my Master was the best slave in His kingdom,
Then should I live my life daily and,
hourly, like a master?

The End.

“Do you understand what I have done to you?
You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you.”
