Marg’s latest post, the one about assumptions in a new marriage, left me thinking about how fellow brothers in Christ – both married and single- are equipping themselves to fight lust.
God’s design is that those who have been rescued from the penalty of sin – hell- by Jesus’ priceless sacrifice, would reign in life, live in victory over sin (Rom 5:17).
But, is your life one of daily, sexual purity?
Or are you a Christ-follower who needs to take time late in the night, go to your mobile phone or laptop and open things that Christ would hate outright?
Do you take pleasure in immoral content which you would rather not let your wife know about, lest she weep herself to sleep?
Would your private browser history make your non-Christian friends snigger at you and mock your Saviour and His bride, the church?
I am not talking about just pornography here.
All things immoral, from sex with someone who’s not your wife, impure physical contact, to thinking about other women’s bodies, even for an instant, is condemned by Jesus himself (Matt 5:27-28). Also remember that if God’s enemy enslaves me using certain regular TV channels, he will use such usual, “smaller”, “unavoidable” sins to wreak havoc in my life.
I know personally the beast that sexual sin can be – this sin can return to steal and destroy life as we know it, when we do not guard ourselves.
We have strategies for what is most important to us. Is sexual purity important enough for you?
Or are you willing to keep playing with the very things that your Saviour paid with His life for?
But how is one supposed to even begin making a battle plan in a world that is packed with billboards, sexually charged commercials, TV shows, websites and movies designed to titillate men?
STEP #1. Trust the Bible and bring your secret sin to God AND to someone in your church community.
Lie #1 : You are supposed to figure a way out of sexual sin by yourself.
Lie #2 : You have to portray yourself as strong, not weak; so, do not confess.
STEP #2. Jot down the most common ways in which you fall into sexual temptation. Create a plan to avoid all such tempting situations. No, it’s not impossible.
STEP #3: Starting now, in different ways, remind yourself of the good news by which you have been given new life, the very life of Christ.
Marg Families will feature a post on each step in the coming weeks. You can share from your experience in the comments- I would love to learn from them.

If you thought pornography was bad, I bet you didn’t know how bad it really is.
