Trivial News : Rainbow Lips And #Selfiewithdaughter
This is the age of standing up for movements and causes.
Go to Change.org. See the number of petitions that rally behind causes – and rightly so, because justice is very important.
Few people support a movement to actually serve somebody else. Some do it to draw attention to themselves. “Kya cool hai hum”. Others do it because the success or failure of the cause is linked to who they think are, their very identity.
Two movements became popular recently – If you are from India, you already know both.
1.#Selfiewithdaughter and Gandi baat
What do I mean by Gandi baat?
Foul insults!
The Indian TV actress Shruti Seth was one of the few who spoke against the #selfiewithdaughter movement (See? Another cause!) that was promoted across Twitter by Shri Narendra Modi, our Prime Minister.
This movement, which started in a village in Haryana has now become infamous for the torrents of abusive comments Seth received on her Twitter profile. Shameful and vile is the vitriol, from men and women alike, for opposing Modiji’s campaign. Her husband, Danish Aslam, collected some choice tweets and sent them to Modiji’s Twitter handle. Here is how Shruti Seth felt after being immersed in a deluge of expletive-tweets :
I am certain Modiji wanted to esteem the girl child in a country with patriarchal overtones like ours – hats off to that village in Haryana who started this trend. Maybe Shruti Seth and other voices were quick to judge P.M Modi.
But the #selfiewithdaughter campaign has become a gandi baat. It will now be mostly remembered for the unsightly verbal sewage drain it became on Twitter.
All because many Modi fans thought unreasonable voices should be silenced with verbal violence.
2. Rainbow Tolerator : Judgment Day
The Terminator had bullets to fight enemies. Tolerators use “tolerance” to mow down people who are intolerant of their views. Here are three cases from the aftermath of the gay marriage ruling in the U.S :
No.1. Matt Walsh, who wrote against the U.S Supreme Court verdict, says in this article that his post received comments like these –
Bella: the Supreme Court matters more than some bigot with a sh*tty blog and ugly kids. Try again.
Anthony: Oh Matt, you are a perfect assh*le… Take your worthless version of the bible, and set yourself on fire. That would make my Sunday:)
As Walsh memorably says – “Remember, #LoveWins”.
Walsh’s article might seem a bit too blunt, but it’s worth reading because he points clearly the direction which the gay marriage ruling is driving the United States to. He says churches will be made to comply with the gay marriage ruling or face legal action (Equality Wins!). He also predicts that marriage will be “reduced to utter nothingness” as other perverted versions of marriage will follow this ruling to become the norm.
No.2. You might remember the Orgeon bakers who were asked to pay $135,000 in damages for refusing to bake a wedding cake for a lesbian couple in 2013. They were recently issued a gag order by the Oregon government – which means they could speak “publicly about their refusal to participate in or bake wedding cakes for same-sex unions” to – no one.
No.3. Finally, a catholic priest in New York City was spat at by two participants of a Gay Pride parade.
“Oh well, i deserve worse”, Jonathan Morris, the priest, tweeted. Fox news ran an article that said something insightful about the incident-
“In a way it’s a modern-day parable – those who preach tolerance are the least tolerant of all. But Father Jonathan demonstrated that he not only preaches tolerance – he practices it.”
My point could not be better summarized than this line.
Why did I mention these two movements? To expose the fake tolerance that we all claim we have.
How are these intolerant people any better than the Christians who hate gay people?
How are the #selfiewithdaughter people any better than those who murder female fetuses?
Given enough power or support from the government, and the certainty of no punishment for my actions, I think I would be mightily tempted to steamroll anyone who oppose my point of view. Those who are in the minority are no different. Look at how most of the gay community and those who sympathized with the girl child profusely bled the abundance of their hearts. And we don’t even know how despicable this is in the sight of God our creator; God who wants justice, but finds only injustice inside us all.
Give me power and invisibility, and I will ensure others are dragged, forced, pressured and cornered into being tolerant. More like, into obeying me.
And this is not “power’s” fault. This is Total Depravity. The range of things we humans can do is stunning. We fight injustice. Yet we will insult other’s daughters online. Even behind rainbow lips, lie monsters that are part of our very being.
Shruti Seth got to see the faces behind the nice daughter-loving masks that were on many Twitter users when she spoke against Modiji. These people probably live under a delusion of shared power with the ruling government. No wonder their “I-love-daughters” facade came off as easily as a diaper slips off a toddler’s buttocks to reveal the stinking content within.
Though the diaper was full of nasty sh*t, it is good all that got pasted across Twitterdom, because – no campaign is so deep, that it can hide your character which is deeper still.
Like Seth reminds us, people were O.K with abusing somebody else’s daughter. But that’s “somebody else’s” daughter, right? Who cares.
Have you ever wondered why the Bible is so often quoted at Margfamilies?
Well, apart from the fact that we know our God because of the Bible, one reason is the true, resounding and convicting insight it gives every day to situations that have baffled social experts and scholars. More relevant than the latest blog, is its counsel.
Ready to hear what Mr. Jesus has to say this about social media campaigns, foul mouths and Rainbow Tolerators?
And he went on to say, “It is what comes out of you that makes you unclean. For from the inside, from your heart, come the evil ideas which lead you to do immoral things, to rob, kill, commit adultery, be greedy, and do all sorts of evil things; deceit, indecency, jealousy, slander, pride, and folly- all these evil things come from inside you and make you unclean Mar 7: 20-23 , GNB
“Give us our rights- or else”.
Anything must be done to ensure justice. Even injustice.
No wonder God’s justice demands our annihilation.
Now try to understand why would God the Father sent His only Son to be sacrificed for unjust, ungodly people like us.
“Here we are, then, speaking for Christ, as though God himself were making his appeal through us. We plead on Christ’s behalf: let God change you from enemies into his friends!
Christ was without sin, but for our sake God made him share our sin in order that in union with him we might share the righteousness of God.” 2 Cor 5:20-21, GNB
Fake tolerance needs to go. But it won’t go, until each heart lays down it’s weapons at the wonderful cross where the Jesus the King died for sinners like us.
