Jesus is The Truth

What is Truth ? How does one answer such a question ? Is truth an object that can be defined. Is truth a philosophical subject that can be debated ? Is truth absolute ? Is truth different for different people ? Does truth change with changing times ? Once upon a time the earth being flat was truth. The sun revolving around the earth was truth. But with new discoveries what was once true became false. Is truth then relative ? Then we have the dilemma of whether to speak the truth when it can hurt someone seriously. Can we tell a lie to save someone ? Is truth the basis for all moral ethics ? Such questions have been debated through history . But one thing everybody agrees is that the opposite of truth exists and that is called a lie.
The very first lie recorded in the Bible is that spoken by Devil when it told Eve ”You surely will not die”. Gen 3:4 And ever since then, death entered the world. Not just physical death but spiritual death. So it was not truth that caused death, but lie. And since that day man has been in bondage to the Father of lies, the Devil. No longer was it necessary to teach small children to lie . Children were born with the propensity to lie. It was the natural language. Cain killed his brother Abel and when God questioned Cain “Where is your brother ? Pat came Cain’s reply “I do not know”. A lie. And down through the ages truth was always distorted and lies became truth.
Therefore the Scripture says “the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. Rom 1:18 Because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Rom 1:25
Into this world 2000 years ago came Jesus. John introduces Jesus with these words “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of Grace and Truth.” John 1:14 John says Jesus was the embodiment of Truth. Jesus was the personification of Truth. And it was Jesus who said to all those who were under the bondage of the liar the devil “You shall know the Truth and the Truth shall set you free” John 8:32 But how can Truth set a person free from the bondage of the Devil.
Jesus declared “I am the Truth”. John 14:6 And it will be Jesus who will set man free from the bondage to the Devil. In fact Jesus incarnated in human form for the very purpose of setting man free from the spiritual death brought in by the Father of lies. Jesus who was Truth, on the Cross took on Himself all the lies of mankind. The wrath of God for the lies you and I spoke fell upon Jesus on the Cross. Jesus by His death on the Cross set man free from the bondage to Devil and death. When we know Jesus, we will know the Truth and Jesus will set us free.
The question Pilate asked has to be rephrased . The question is not What is Truth ? but Who is Truth ? And the answer is Jesus is the Truth.
Come, every soul by sin oppressed,
There’s mercy with the Lord;
And He will surely give you rest
By trusting in His Word.
Yes, Jesus is the Truth, the Way,
That leads you into rest;
Believe in Him without delay,
And you are fully blest.
